LGC Chairman Assures of Transparency in the Distribution of Palliatives
The Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government, Hon. Shehu Usman says his administration will ensure accountability, transparency and equitable distribution of the palliatives received from the state Government for onward distribution to poorest in the locality.
The Chairman stated this on Thursday May 21, 2020, while presenting the items to the Ward Distribution Committee at the Local Government Secretariat in Jos.
The Ward Palliatives Committee constituted by the Local Government is made up of Traditional and religious leaders, ward Councilors, Youths as well as Women representatives.
The Chairman who personally supervised the distribution process noted that Governor Simon Bako Lalong understood the hardship facing by the citizens of the state due to Corona Virus pandemic ravaging globally, maintaining that, as a consequent of that, the state government decided to distribute palliatives to assist people “whose means of income have been badly affected’ by the lockdown in the state.
Hon. Usman enjoined the Committee to ensure they distribute the items without bias or partisanship noting that the palliatives should be shared to everyone that is vulnerable and in the different localities and in accordance with the template issued by the state Government.
The Chairman used the opportunity to appreciate citizens of the area for understanding with Government desire to contain the spread of COVID 19 pandemic and sued for continued support to the Lalong administration to enable him achieve on his mandate.
The Chairman further warned against diversion of the items, adding that any person caught wanting would be dealt with according to the Law.
The items distributed include 250 bags of Rice, 163 of 25 kg bags of maize, 52 tomato paste, 655 tubers of yams, 50 cartons of spaghetti, 50 cartons of hand watch soups, 50 cartons of maggi and 50 bags of salt as well as toothpaste.
Speaking separately, the Deputy Imam Jos central mosque, Sheik Ghali Adam, CAN Treasurer Jos North, Rev Dr Garba Andu and Evangelist Joshua Ringsum appreciated Governor Lalong and the Management Committee Chairman Hon. Shehu Usman for prioritising the welfare of the residents of the area saying they are comfortable with the template used for the distribution of the items.
All the people who received the items on behalf of twenty Wards in the Local Government thanked the Chairman for personally supervising the distribution to various Wards of the area and pledged their total loyalty to the present administration of the state and local government.
