COVID-19: Hon. Gwallson Expresses Satisfaction Over Fumigation Exercise in Riyom LGA

In order to decontaminate and prevent the State from infectious diseases following the outbreak of the dreaded COVID-19, the Plateau State Government on Friday 10th April, 2020 officially flagged off Fumigation Exercise which is expected to take place in the 17 LGAs of the State.

On Saturday, the exercise held in Riyom LGA and the delegation was received by the Council Boss, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson who described the exercise as timely, commendable and aimed at improving public health.


He said with the outbreak of COVID-19 which has killed over 107,000 persons and infected over 1.7 Million it is imperative to put in place measures to prevent the virus.

He said the fumigation will eliminate rodents who are carriers of certain diseases and mosquitoes which are carriers of malaria. He said Lassa Fever is still killing many and there is need to decontaminate public places and houses.

Hon. Gwallson said he will continue to work to ensure a healthy Riyom LGA.

He appreciated the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong for extending the fumigation exercise to the grassroots.

He called on the people to ensure their homes are fumigated to get rid of infectious diseases. He said he will partner with ASTC to ensure houses fumigated since it is affordable. He urged those with the capacity to ensure they fumigate their houses for enhanced public health.

He said places fumigated were public places, the Local Government Hqtrs and Markets.

Hon. Gwallson also commended the people for the impressive compliance to the lockdown and charged them to take their health seriously all the time.

He urged them to adhere to measures and directives set by government and health professionals to prevent COVID-19.

Leader of the Fumigation Exercise and CEO/MD Agricultural Services and Training Centre (ASTC), Dr. Susan Bentu said they were in the area to carryout the directive of government aimed at decontaminating the locality through fumigation which she said is a State-wide exercise.

She appreciated the cooperation accorded her by the Council Chairman, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson and the people’s compliance to the lockdown order and understanding which is enabling the lockdown exercise go on smoothly without hitch.

She appreciated the State Governor, Barr. Simon Lalong for the gesture and being concern that the citizens are healthy which will enhance productivity.
