Covid-19 Lockdown: Total compliance in Jos

Residents of Plateau State on friday observed total compliance to the lockdown order by Governor Simon Lalong as part of measures to curtail and contain the spread of the deadly Coronavirus disease in the State.

It was observed by our Correspondent who monitored the compliant level that all places visited were deserted.

Our Correspondent also observed that their were heavy presence of security operatives on major streets of the state .

From Ahmadu Bello way , to Yakubu Gowon way to Hwolse, Rayfield ,Dadin Kowa ,Angwan Rogo and most parts of Jos South, residents were seen in their respective houses with their families discussing the virus and the implications of the lockdown on the citizenry.

Markets , business hubs at the state capital were empty as people complied with the stay at home directive order of Governor Lalong .

It could be recalled that Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Monday ordered a total shut down of activities of the state effective 12 midnight of Thursday 9th April 2020 to 11pm Wednesday 15th April 2020 for fumigation .

Addressing newsmen in Jos ,Gov Lalong said the state government has concluded plans to carry out a state wide fumigation exercise which would cover Jos – Bukuru Metropolis and all the 17 local governments area of the state .

The state Government also said it has set up 10 mobile courts to try violators of the order.

Governor Lalong who flagged off the fumigation exercise on Friday said “We have also been preparing in the unfortunate event that if any case is recorded in Plateau state so that we can respond appropriately .”
He said that although no case has been recorded in Plateau as at today , the state cannot relax , “We have to remain vigilant and proactive “

“That is why we announced a total lockdown of the state , which began some hours ago , during this period , the entire state will be fumigated all public places such as markets , streets office premises among others “

“I call on people of the state to stay at home in line with the directive issues in order to make the exercise a success.”
