The burning down of Kangboro village and the eventual killing of no fewer than four persons including a personnel of the operation safe heaven is shocking, barbaric, inhuman and thus condemnable.
I extend my deep and heartfelt condolences to the immediate families of the deceased, the Irigwe community, Riyom LG and the people of Plateau state for this dastardly act, and the painful resurgence of inhumanity to the sanctity of life.
While calling for calm, I urge the Federal government of Nigeria who is the custodian of the security apparatus, to immediately lunch a sincere manhunt to crack down the criminals involved in this act of barbarism. Government intervention is necessary to avert further lost of life, threat to food security as large hectares of agricultural farms were destroyed. Barns with food worth millions of naira where also looted and burnt down. The academic calendar and the educational pursuit of hundreds of children is threatened with the complete burning down of the community.
The community also lost two churches as a result of this evil act.
This incident has inevitably added to the overwhelming number of internally displaced persons in Riyom and Bassa LGs. I therefore call for the immediate activation of emergency response from the relevant government agencies and the humanitarian organizations to assist with relief materials to the displaced persons. The government of Plateau state Should as matter of urgency, assess the level of damage caused and proffer immediate intervention.
I appeal to the good people of Riyom to please help out in which ever way to make life meaningful to the affected community.
Government must bring these killings to and end by arresting and prosecuting perpetrators. Anything outside this is not acceptable.
May the souls of the deceased rest in peace and their families be comforted in Christ Jesus.
