PRESS STATEMENT
SEN. JT USENI SERVES GOVERNORSHIP PETITION ON INEC, LALONG AND APC.
The legal team of the PDP Plateau governorship candidate Sen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni has successfully served his petition on the three Respondents – Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Lalong and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While the tribunal bailiffs easily had access to INEC and APC to effect service, they were turned back three times at the gates of the Government House by security operatives who told them that the Governor was “nowhere to be found.”
Useni’s lawyers were then compelled to approach the tribunal with an application for substituted service of the governor through his party, the APC. This was granted by the tribunal. The governor has therefore been appropriately served.
With this successful service, the Respondents have 21 days to file their replies to the issues raised by the Applicants – Sen Useni and the PDP, after which the tribunal could announce dates for hearing.
After being briefed by the legal team, Sen Useni said he is satisfied with the work done so far by the lawyers.
“I believe in the integrity of the judiciary. I believe that the Honourable justices will do their best to ensure that justice is done on the matters before them.”
Sen Useni has also appealed to PDP members and supporters to be and remain in high spirits “because we have a very strong case at the tribunal. We must not allow anything to distract us from the crucial battle ahead of us. We cannot afford to disappoint the people of Plateau who are looking up to us to restore their stolen mandate.”
