The Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency at the National Assembly and Senate Candidate Plateau North, Rep. Barr. ID Gyang has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for disappointing Nigerians and the International Community in refusing to assent to the Electoral Amendment Bill passed by the National Assembly.
Rep. ID Gyang made his feelings known while playing host to members of his Media Team at his Rayfield Residence Jos, Plateau State today.
He submitted that the President’s action was a clear indication that his APC-led administration was not disposed to a free, fair and credible election come February, 2019.
He said the amendment which was undertaken by the National Assembly was meant to address the defects in the existing law which was last amended in 2010.
Rep. ID Gyang said President Buhari was opposed to the need to strengthen and make the Electoral process more transparent thereby squandering the opportunity to improve on his already poor democratic rating
The action of the President is quite unfortunate and a negation of the national interest, Rep. Gyang further lamented.
He assured the Media Team that he will vote to override the President’s Veto when the matter comes for consideration on the floor of the House.
He also expressed hope that the 2/3 majority required for the Veto override would be met as most members are disenchanted with the decision of the President.
Head of of the Media Team, Amb. Friday Bako lauded the achievements of the member which spread across all the Districts of the Federal Constituency.
He said the projects were people oriented and empowerment and the numerous Bills sponsored by the Member are commendable and worthy of emulation.
He said victory is sure for the Senate Candidate and was optimistic that the Member will replicate what he is presently doing across Plateau Northern Zone.
The Media Team pledged to do more on promoting and projecting the Candidate as well as mobilizing massive supports to enhance and brighten his victory.
Amb. Friday said the team is made up of professionals in various disciplines who are passionate about media engagements.
Rep. ID Gyang applauded the resourcefulness and sagacity of members of the Media Team.
He said they had distinguished themselves by eloquently engaging the media space in promoting and highlighting his candidature.
He admonished them to remain constructive, civil, objective and factual in their engagements, a reputation they were already known for.
