Plateau LG Elections: PDP Approaches Election Tribunal With 20 Lawyers

About three weeks after the local government elections in Plateau State, the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday said it had lined up 20 lawyers, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria, to challenge the outcome of the election at the Local Government Election Appeals Tribunal.

The election had held on October 10.

The PDP alleged that officials of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission “deceived party agents with telephone calls, only to disappear to Jos and announce the results in favour of the All Progressives Congress.”

The Legal Adviser of PDP in Plateau State, Mr. Binchen Jantur, who stated this in an interview, said even though the tribunal was set up by the government to address the “injustice in the controversial election,” “the PDP would confront them, even in their own domain.”

In response, Governor Simon Lalong asked citizens of the state not to do anything that may affect the peace of the state.

He advised that anyone who is not satisfied with the result of the LG elections as announced by PLASEIC, should approach the LGEAT to lodge their grievances.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Yakubu Dati, had said that the LGEAT was inaugurated long before the LG polls took place.

The PUNCH had reported that elections were not conducted in Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs due to what the state government cited as “security reasons.”
