The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State have accused Governor Simon Lalong of undue ‘interference and illegal attempt’ to substitute Abdullahi Mohammed Barau with Abbas Adamu Wokdung as the chairmanship candidate for Kanam in the forth-coming local government elections in the state.

The stakeholders of the party made the allegation through its spokesperson, Kalamu Idris Dal during a press conference at National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Jos.

The stakeholders observed that it has become abjectly imperative to address ‘negative political developments’ in their LG as it pertains to the build up to the elections.

He said, “We are compelled to issue this press release in the face of wanton threats, overbearing political interference and attempt at perpetrating illegalities by the governor Lalong. We are worried by the extent of political provocation being meted out to us in Kanam especially in the face of clear disregard for the rule of law and the essence of judicial intervention.

“We are particular irked by the fact that the Governor against whom our complaint relates is a Legal Practitioner who should readily adhere to judicial processes without any advice or prompting,” he said.

When contacted, the Plateau state Commissioner for Information & Communication, Yakubu Dati said the issue was a pre-election matters that are the prerogative of the party.

He said, “The contentious issue surrounding the Kanam chairmanship primary elections have finally been laid to rest, after painstakingly examing all areas.

“We urge all loyal partymen and women to bury their differences and build the party.”

When asked who among Barau and Wokdung clinched the chairmanship ticket, he said, It’s not within his preview to disclose such information.
