INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

THEME: “SAFE SPACE”

A MESSAGE OF HOPE BY COMRADE SELE SEAN PWAJOK, (MIASS), VICE PRESIDENT, NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA ,(NYCN) NORTH CENTRAL.

TODAY marks a moment in time, when we celebrate the essence of Youth. A day globally recognized to enhance the plights of young persons and a signal to the fact that we owe it a duty to lift the flags of patriotism and make our impacts felt in society.

I believe that the basic principle of liberal efforts should find global acceptance. The grounding beliefs that mankind is born free and equal, should anchor themselves in the mindsets of modern youths, men and women.

A belief in the modern world, that the true conservative who is respectful of the traditions of thought, will be liberal at least, in the sense of accepting the convictions about universal freedom and equality and be responsible for claims of authority.

I no longer see the task of agreed philosophy as the Hegelian enterprise of exploring and refashioning a consensus. Nowadays, we have to give as much attention to the dire task of drawing lines in sand, marking off values which we recognize that only some of our fellows deem worthy of its defence, values that are all the more crucial for being seemingly divisive.

The task ahead may seem daunting, laced with a perceived notion of great challenges but all we need is ourselves. The task of moral theory is to validate or generate moral principles, to serve as a foundation to our intellectual health and to renew the innate radiation of our capabilities.

As Youths, we have clamoured so long by being better at claiming rights than defending them. In such a terrain of rights. C. H. Spurgeon, in his representation of the PRINCIPLE OF FAIRNESS… He said… “All those who receive benefits from the cooperative efforts of others, may be required to shoulder the burden of contributing towards the maintenance of schemes that secures them”

We of the great modern generation must join hands in an effort to make the difference we so desire. We have made the sacrifice to lead from the front and assure the new breed that as difficult as the struggle portends, we must not be distracted in our mission to secure a great future for the nation. I take advantage of this day to renew my commitment to the valid cause of giving valuable thrusts to all relevant stakeholders in our quest for liberation.

To the Youths, LET US ARISE!
