A CONSULTATIVE MEETING BETWEEN THE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT (NORTH CENTRAL), NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN) AND THE STATE OFFICIALS OF THE PLATEAU YOUTH COUNCIL (PYC).

REPORT.

Meeting commenced with an opening prayer and remarks by Arc. FCT Bankat (Director: Administration, Information and Publicity, NYCN – North Central). He declared the session open with tributes and acknowledgements to attendees drawn from the Executive Council of the Plateau Youth Council (PYC), stressing the urgency to establish synergy and harmony between the State’s youth governing body and the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN (North Central), to among other objectives, enhance the ideals of both organizations in coordinating the general council affairs of the State, Zone and Nation at large.

In unveiling the newly elected National Vice-President (North Central), Comrade Sele Sean Pwajok, (MIASS) to the State Council, Arc. Bankat gave a brief highlight as to the path that led to the successful emergence of the VP, NYCN (NC) at the recently held National Congress in Gombe State between July 19 – 25, 2018, fully powered by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports and hosted by the Government of Gombe State, having in attendance, the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon S. Dalung, the Executive Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, OFR. Amongst other key stakeholders from the Ministry, Voluntary Youth Organizations, Board of Trustees, State Chairmen and EXCOs, and other representatives from various states of the federation.

Having the largest constituency under the NYCN Zonal umbrella, Comrade Pwajok oversees council affairs that covers Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara and Niger States, including the FCT where the National Headquarters is located having Com. Bello Bala Shagari as its National President who have since been declared and sworn-in along with other elected officials at the Ambassador Dickson Akoh-led congress in Gombe State.

In attendance at the meeting between the Office of the Vice-President, the Zonal Directorates and the State officials of the Plateau Youth Council (PYC) were the following:

VICE-PRESIDENT’S REMARKS.

Com. SS Pwajok highlighted his desire to acknowledge and identify with the PYC, the State Youth Body duly recognized by the Government who have been resolute and committed to the advancement of the plight of the youths on the Plateau. He emphasized his mission and vision statements and how he intends to work in harmony with the PYC to accord an enhanced participation at the zonal and national levels, to also, kick-off a zonal tour of other states under his jurisdiction with a mandatory start, under the affiliate diligence with his home state, The Plateau. While he also acknowledged the need for the State to maximise the advantage of having a National portfolio upon a son of the soil.

Major highlights at the meeting includes:

a) Brief on the Congress held in Gombe State of July 19 – 25, 2018.

b) Efforts to pay due allegiance to the State Government, Traditional Councils, The Legislature, Religious and Political leaders and other relevant Stakeholders.

c) Brief on the NEC meeting held at the National headquarters on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in Abuja.

d) Dream to encourage and foster a working relationship with the PYC and PLSG on a mission to harmonize all states within the zone, including the FCT.

e) Proposal of a Zonal Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State.

f) The advantages of synchronizing the State and National bodies of the NYCN in recognition and and advancement of Plateau State Youths in tandem with the Geopolitical zone, other zones and the National parliament by aligning members to advanced courses in national and international participation for youth development events and empowerment schemes. International workshops, conferences, content development, viable enterprises, empowerment schemes among other benefits under the full backing of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, The Federal Government, NGOs, West African and African Youth Assembly and other global agencies.

g) Current issues and a road map for his 4year term in office.

h) Appreciations.

PYC’s REMARKS.

The Deputy Chairman of the PYC, Com. Othniel Gongden, applauded the VPs desire to humbly identify with and acknowledge the State Youth Council, the efforts to begin his National assignment from home and the desire to extend the fortunes of the Plateau Youths to the national front.

He outlined the PYC’s plan to promote the plights of its membership across board and to key in to the developmental strides of the State Government who have been very supportive of their activities in all aspects while highlighting the great support enjoyed from several youth organizations under the umbrella of the PYC.

He commended the leadership of the PYC and EXCO with whom they have been able to arrive at far reaching resolutions in the interest of enhancing policy directions as it relates to legacy projects and ideals, with an agenda to involve youths from 89 districts across the state to discuss resolutions and derive a document with recommendations that will include an establishment of a Plateau Youth Commission as will be forwarded to the Government and Legislature for onward consideration.

He also appreciated the Executive Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Simon Bako Lalong, Esq. Who in his profound wisdom and kindness, resolved all previous issues and challenges that led to the hitherto collapse of the PYC before the advent of this administration. He applauded the State Governments key initiatives and developmental strides that warmly includes the youths of the State.

After an exhaustive session, members of the NYCN and PYC agreed to the following:

a) Identify key areas of concern in the promotion of the general interests of the youths.

b) Promote harmony between the two bodies by looking forward to establishing a State Chapter of the NYCN by adopting the National Constitution after due consultations with relevant stakeholders in order to include Plateau State into the helm of council affairs nationwide.

c) foster peaceful engagements in crises ridden communities or groups and societies, by proffering meaningful schemes for youth empowerment and other viable ventures.

d) To in collaboration with various youth platforms, the government, private entities, NGOs, Traditional systems, religious bodies etc., organize annual Youth Summit and Symposia/Conferences to enable innovative methods and procedures to enhance the many ideas of empowerment, development, security and welfare of the State, Zone and Country as a whole.

e) To serve as a progressive group of various youth organizations and seek clear and achievable methods of promoting the essential plight of the Nigerian youths, through meaningful engagements of relevant State and Federal establishments, the private sector, international bodies, NGOs etc. to be supportive of the mission and vision statements of both organizations to enhance the fortunes of the State and National at large through Youth development.

f) To assist in advising their membership and State, on various ways to elevate the prospects of the Nigerian Youths.

This and many more resolutions were reached and a decision to henceforth, keep communications across through official procedures.

The gentlemen of the press were also in attendance and were able to capture the event with subsequent brief interviews and participation at the meeting for onward public despatch through the conventional print, electronic and social media platforms.

The meeting ended in high spirits as all officials present, agreed to enter into a long walk to the actualization of schemes that seek to promote the growth and development of the Plateau, North-Central and Nigerian Youths, in an attempt also, to meaningfully engage relevant stakeholders and support groups that intend to promote legacies of building the youths and building the nation.
