This past month has been an expression of incalculable grief for us all. The attacks have been devastating and it may take us sometime to be able to push back the legacies of this horrific experience behind.

We went round to IDP camps yesterday alongside officials of NEMA and SEMA to provide humanitarian assistance to people displaced from their homes as a result of these recent attacks.

It wasn’t a good experience seeing the desperation on their faces and also the squalid conditions under which they live.

The sights and sounds were heart breaking.

The enemy seized upon our inner weaknesses, and caused us severe pain and loss. However regardless of ethnic, religious and political backgrounds, our people have spoken out, and those voices re-echoed around the world.

The world heard, saw, and shared our deepest fears, concerns and sorrows.

But as we step into this new month, we must strive to build bridges of understanding; foster unity and cooperation. These are key ingredients for building lasting peace.

We must remember that there is no giving up on this quest as it is a legacy we will leave our children.

Though the enemy tried to bring us down, we must show our resilience and strength in standing up and working for a brighter future, together as a people.

We are confident that our spirit of love and understanding will manifest itself in this trying moments and as we band together, we shall overcome the evil machinations of all enemies of Peace.

It gives our convictions strength to know that there are brave people out there willing to risk everything for the sake of peace.

Thanks to all the agencies and organization out there working to ameliorate the suffering of the internally displaced.

We must not relent or lose our shared humanity over freckles of mutual suspicion and distrust.

Our confidence is further bolstered with measures like the establishment of another mobile police squadron in some of the troubled areas; reinforcement of security personnel and the launching of the early warning system by the government. But even more encouraging is the fact that people are increasingly becoming conscious of their duty to improved security in our villages.

Implementing the Roadmap to peace document has become a priority to the government at all levels. We call on us all to participate in this implementation as we collectively work together to resolve old conflicts; prevent new ones from happening as well as promoting a stable and peaceful society.

Finally, we must not allow our decisions and actions to be ruled by emotions and anger. Let us turn our fears into faith and work assiduously to deliver a plateau at Peace with itself and the rest of the World.

We must together build the future we want to see, and refuse to give up on loving each other.
