Press Statement is shown below:
PRESS RELEASE.
11/05/2018.
The Plateau Progressive Youth(PPY)wishes to register its shock and dissatisfaction over the unlawful arrest and detention of a law abiding citizen and a sitting Senator of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria.
The group is as a matter of National importance calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) and all other relevant agencies linked to the arrest and detention of Sen.Dr Jonah David Jang to immediately release the presidential hopeful describing his detention for over 72 hours without charging him to court as illegal, politically motivated and uncalled -for.
Despite the court order from the Federal High Court in Jos and Abuja directing the EFCC to immediately and unconditionally release the Senator from their custody having detained him for a period exceeding one day(24hours)and also pay him the sum of five hundred million Naira only (#500,000,000) with apology which the EFCC are yet to comply with.
This act is not only unlawful but unconstitutional and a gross violation of the Senator’s fundamental human rights. As such, this act by the EFCC is an abuse not only to Senator Jang as a person but also an abuse to the rule of law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and an attempt to blackmail the good records and personality of the Senator whom we know better than them(EFCC).
We wish to abundantly make it clear to the EFCC,potential opposition party come 2019 and an enemy of democracy that as plateau and indeed Nigerian youth, we know Sen. Jang to be a transparent and accountable leader, a politician of high integrity, so no amount of intimidation or blackmail will keep us away from him instead, we remain very loyal and do all within our power to give him necessary support should he chose to contest for the number seat of Nigeria come 2019
