Mr Geofrey Miri, a PDP gubernatorial aspirant in Plateau, has pledged to guard against misappropriation of funds meant for local governments in the state, if voted into office in 2015.

The aspirant made the pledge on Thursday in Pankshin during a courtesy call on the Chairman of Pankshin Local Government, Mr Samuel Goar.

He said the visit was to notify the chairman of his ambition to contest the governorship seat of the state and seek his prayer and support.

“I came out to contest the exalted seat of this our dear state, Plateau, to bring about total and positive change in all sectors of the state.

“I want to assure you sir, that the custom of fiddling with funds meant for you people in the local governments will stop forthwith, if I am voted, ” he said.

According to him, Plateau deserves pragmatic policies and programmes that will bring about growth and development, adding that stoppage of deductions from councils’ fund is one such.

Miri said that unless drastic steps were taken, the living standard of the people of the state would not record any improvement.

Responding, Goar expressed gratitude to the aspirant for the visit and described it as “very encouraging “.

The chairman, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Ishaya Baltu, said “as one of our own in PDP, we shall give you our support.

“We shall give other aspirants in the party since any of you that emerges as governor becomes our leader”.

“We wish you success as you go on with your campaign; your victory will be the victory of PDP, our dearest party,” Goar said. (NAN)
