Following the publication of names of alleged looters by the Federal Government through the Office of the Minister of Information and Culture, Hon. Lai Mohammed a week ago, the Solicitors of the former Governor of Plateau State and present Senator Representing Plateau Northern Senatorial Zone, His Excellency Da Sen. Jonah David Jang, CON whose name appeared on the list has written the Information and Culture Minister, Hon. Lai Mohammed demanding a retraction of the libelous publication of face legal action.
The Solicitors, C. A. Eichie & Co. said the highly defamatory publication which were publicized on all national papers on 1st April, 2018 and same hitherto carried by AIT, NTA and FRCN on 31st March, 2018 said our client allegedly looted the sum of N12.5 Billion public funds portrayed their client to the public as corrupt, dubious and not worthy of holding the office of a serving Senator which he presently occupies and as a community leader, elder statesman and church leader.
The solicitors said the publication were actuated by a malicious intent and this is because no Court of Law in Nigeria or any part of the World has convicted their Client of such heinous crime or whatsoever.
The further said their Client, Sen. Jang find your unfair and malicious deprecation of his character and hard earned reputation as unwarranted and totally unacceptable.
The solicitors said in the light of the libelous publication, they have the instruction of Sen. David Jang to demand from the Minister, Lai Mohammed within 14 days of receipt of the letter, an apology to be published in 7 National Dailies namely The Guardian, This day, Vanguard, The Sun, The Punch, The Nation and the Tribune.
They said should the Minister fail to comply with the demand, their client, Senator Jang will without hesitation seek legal redress against him (Lai Mohammed) with the soul object of clearing his name which the Minister has attempted to smear with mud.
