GOSA appealed to Nigerians to always give back to their school.

President Gindiri Old Students Association (GOSA), Prof. Rotgak Gofwen, has appealed to well meaning Nigerians to always give back to their school, as a means of showing appreciation to the institution.

Rotgat stated this while addressing journalists after a road walk from GOSA secretariat in Jos to COCIN headquarters Church, kick starting the ‘Diamond Jubilee’ celebration of Girls High School Gindiri, Plateau State.

He said, “The essence of the road walk is to create awareness and kick start events marking the
‘Diamond Jubilee’ celebration of   Girls High School Gindiri Old Students Association.

“The Girls High School is a premier institution in Nigeria, its an institution to reckon with when it comes to girl child education in Northern Nigeria.

“We believe that haven clock sixty years, we intend to look at back at how far, in terms of where we are coming from, to enable us chat a away forward.

“More important, we have a responsibility to the school as old students, we leaving on the sacrifices of others; some other persons made sacrifices to come here and start these institutions and you can imagine what it was 60 years ago and today we better persons.

He said the school has produced students who can be found in all spheres of life.

“In terms of contributions, we done that not only to the immediate environment, but to Plateau State, Central Nigeria and the Country as a whole”, he explained.

Hence the need to create awareness to kick start activities of the main event, which will come up in November.

According to him, both the Girls High School and the Boys Secondary School Gindiri have graduated over 5, 000 students since their establishment.

While the Boys High School was established in 1950, the Girls High School was established in 1958.

He called on other members of GOSA who are doing well to remember to always take time to reach out to the schools, by contributing to its development.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Planning committee for the” Diamond Jubilee”, Engr. Esther Gunda, said the impact of products of the aforementioned schools in Plateau State and the nation in general has been wonderful.

“The very first Secretary to the Government of Plateau State and who was also Head of Service, Susan Jenfa is a product of the Girls High School Gindiri, infact the first female medical doctor in northern Nigeria graduated from this school.

On the standard of the school, Gunda who retired as a Federal Permanent Secretary and the second graduate of Electrical Engineering in northern Nigeria, decried that the educational standard of most schools in the country has gone down, attributing other competing demands as the reasons behind some of the challenges being faced by some schools.

She said as products of the school, they have built an ICT library for the Girls High School as part of their contribution for the diamond jubilee celebration, which will be commissioned soon.

Some of the prominent citizens who graduated from the Boys High School were Late Joseph Gomwalk the first Governor of old Benue/Plateau State, Professor Ochapa Onazi, Professor Nenfot Gomwalk, among others.
