Staff of Mangu Local Government Education Authority and Council held a peaceful protest today in Mangu over non payment of Salary.

The workers who displayed various placards with inscriptions such as “Gov. Alert come to our rescue,” “Arc. Daspan is a traitor” “We need our salaries,” “Salary money is not project money,” “where is the Daspan” etc came out in large number and wearing mostly black attires.

When Viewpoint Nigeria sought to know more about the protest, the workers who spoke said they are peacefully protesting the non payment of their February Salaries.

They said despite the hardships being experienced, their February salaries to help them meet their financial obligations such as children’s school fees, feeding and other basic needs.

Some who don’t want their names in print said the action of not paying them is wicked and inhuman.

They said they are calling on the State Governor to come to their rescue so they can be paid to discharge their financial responsibilities.

The reason for the non payment was owing to a Garnishee Order placed on the Accounts of the Council by a Contractor named Arc. Daspan who was said to had carried out a contract for the Local Government but was not paid in full and sought for legal redress which led to the garnishee order on the Local Government Account a reliable source confirmed to Viewpoint Nigeria.

Viewpoint Nigeria can authoritatively report that the protest was peaceful and devoid of rancour despite the large turnout of the protesting workers.

The workers said they would protest again to ensure they are paid as this is a warning protest according to him.

The Education Secretary, Mr. Usman Umar Mohammed, NUT Chairman Mangu Chapter Cmr. Isaac Dapul and Transition Chairman Engr. Danjuma Haruna were not on seat to respond to Viewpoint Nigeria.
