Press Release

CONDEMNATION OF HOSTILITIES, ATTACKS AND KILLINGS IN BOKKOS AND BASSA LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS, PLATEAU STATE

Government is responsible for the protection of lives and property of citizens of any given Nation.

When government fails in this constitutional obligation, it leaves the people vulnerable, allow injustices thrive and make living unbearable.

It is on this premise that Plateau Youth G-17 Peace & Progressive Forum write to condemn in the strongest possible terms the most recent unabated attacks and killings going on in Daffo, Bokkos LGA, Miango Bassa LGA, other parts of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria and other parts of the Country.

We call on Government to demonstrate its political will and capacity towards bringing the ugly situations to an end.

Our people in Bassa, Bokkos and the entire State are no longer safe but live in constant fears.

With the attacks on Dong in Jos North and Rafiki in Bassa today where one person was reported dead and Seven seriously injured, it is imperative for the government to mobilize more security interventions to stop the dastardly killings in the State and other parts of the Country.

Serious issues of security concerns should not be treated with kid gloves but with all serious so as to discourage those involved in the attacks and killings.

We call on the security agencies to as a matter of urgency ensure the arrest of the attackers for prosecution to serve as deterrent to others.

We also call on SEMA, NEMA, NGOs and other spirited individuals to come to the aid of people affected by the attacks and killings while we call on the people to remain vigilant and repel the attackers.

We want to reiterate our call on government to live up to its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property of the citizens as it took oath to do.

We remain committed to and supportive of all steps and strategies that will bring about enduring peace.

May the souls of the deceased rest in peace, quick recovery to those injured and may God give those affected the fortitude to bear the losses of both lives and property.
