Plateau police command dispel rumours about bomb scare

Following rumours of a  bomb scare which jolted residents of Jos the Plateau State capital yesterday, the State Police Command has calmed the residents explaining that what many thought to be bomb found with a young boy suspected to be looking for where to plant the items were actually “hair clipper and a pair of scissors.”

There was a bomb scare at the Terminus area on Wednesday but the Police Command in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Terna Tyopev dispelled the rumour and assured the public of safety.

According to the statement, “On 14/02/2018 at about 1730hrs, a distress call was received from the Officer in Charge (OC) Terminus Police Outstation that one Hashiru of about nine years old was seen with a parcel suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Devise, IED.

“On receipt of the information, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, EOD Operatives were mobilized to the scene. They professionally carried out EOD rendering safe procedure on the suspected parcel which was later found to be hair clipper and a pair of scissors without a trace of explosives.”

The situation which hitherto created panic among members of the public in the vicinity has been calmed and the Command advised residents of the city to go about their lawful activities.
