Plateau Youth activist  Pius Hommen  has said that the issue of strike as means of settling disputes in Plateau State is  over .

Pius Hommen stated this in a statement made  available to newsmen in Jos on Thursday saying  that  the Plateau State governor Simon Lalong should be supported and commended for making this possible.

The statement reads that in Plateau it is a general believe that for any government to achieve meaningful governance through effective implementation of policies and programmes, the issue of civil servants’ welfare should be given top priority.

“I commend Gov Simon Lalong, for his efforts at bettering the lives of civil servants in the state etc like  prompt payment of salaries and pension and for clearing the backlog of salaries and pensions been owned civil servants and pensioners in the state by the past administration. ”

According to the statement  “Labour in the past suffered lack of salaries , promotions , pension and gratuity amongst other issues. “The relationship between labour and government in the past  in Plateau came to its lowest due to lack of understanding, or better still deliberate government policy to frustrate labour and its affiliates in the past  , The excess crude amount and the huge federal allocation given to the past  regime could not be utilised to clear salaries and pension to alleviate the suffering of workers and pensioners in the state, he said.

“The present regime of Governor Simon Lalong took over when NLC and her affiliates were on strike over the nonpayment of salaries and pension and Gov Lalong in his wisdom immediately engaged labour which resulted to the suspension of the strike, and subsequently reopening of negotiations on pending issues including settlement our of court , the issue of no work , no pay instituted by the past regime.”

“We commend our governor for the settlement, out of court in the case of no work no pay instituted against labour by the previous regime and for the release of promotion to deserving workers across the state service.

“I also hail governor Lalong for setting of committees to look into other pending issues with the aim of resolving same. In other to consolidate on these achievements, NLC is encouraging government to fast track the implementation of other outstanding issues and agreements.”

“Hommen  also called on workers in the state to put in their best to complement governor Lalong’s efforts by being productive

. “We call on civil servants in the state to support the Simon Lalong led administration as it has proven to be workers friendly.” the statement further added
