The alert which was issued by the state information commissioner, Mrs Olivia Dazyam in Jos yesterday stated that Government was doing everything possible to check-mate any threat and protect lives and properties. She said a task force has been empowered by Government to enforce ban on street trading, illegal motor parks and unauthorised parking along major streets.
The commissioner who acknowledged the fact that the state has gone through a lot of security challenges would try to avoid a repeat of the recent twin bomb blasts in the city. She said “In the aftermath of the last bomb blasts in Jos and other security challenges, the Plateau State Government came up with measures aimed at ensuring safety and promoting peace and security within the Jos city centre.”
She added “Since then, security chiefs have been monitoring closely the security situation in the state and as there have been threats of security breach, the strengthening of the task force to enforce the ban on illegal trading, hawking, illegal motor parks and indiscriminate parking of vehicles has become urgent and necessary.”
Dazyam stated further that the task force was also empowered to enforce the ban on commercial motorcyclists in the city and called on citizens to appreciate the severity of the security challenges in the state and country at large. She advised citizens to cooperate just as she called on shop owners to relocate to Kwararafa or Kabong satellite markets.
The commissioner directed traders whose shops were affected in the recent blast to contact their landlords for advice and relocation in alternative shops as the former shops were no longer safe for habitation and trading.
