Press Release

Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum

PLATEAU GOVERNMENT REJECTION OF CATTLE COLONY, A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND WORTHY OF COMMENDATION.

WE CALL FOR BAN ON OPEN GRAZING

Following the Press Text by Media Aide to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Hon. Dan Manjang dated 26th January, 2018 in which the government expressly and outrightly rejected the proposed cattle colony policy of the Federal Government, the group, Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum wish to commend the bold position being taken by the government on the inimical, unfriendly and controversial policy.

This obvious position if done in sincerity is worthy of commendation and a step in the right direction.

Government making its position clear has helped douse the tension among the citizens of Plateau State who hitherto were not comfortable with the listing of Plateau State among the member States that agreed to donate lands to the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for the purpose of establishing cattle colony.

It becomes expedient for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to delist Plateau State from the mentioned States following the outright rejection of the policy by the State Government.

We call Plateau State House of Assembly to expedite action on the Citizen’s Bill we presented to it on Open Grazing Prohibition.
We therefore call on them to immediately promulgate the law against open grazing which is in the best interest of the people to address the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the State in which many people have prematurely lost their lives and property worth millions destroyed and looted in some cases.

The State Government shouldn’t hesitate to assent to implement the Open Grazing Prohibition Law in the State.

As a group, we shall remain supportive of people-friendly policies and all legitimate programmes that will promote Peace, unity and justice In Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

We are law-abiding and will continue to follow all legitimate ways to push our positions and grievances.

Thank you and God bless

Mr. Dachung Musa Bagos
Convener, Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum
