Plateau Govt  Urge  Parents to be Conscious of Human Traffickers

Plateau State Commissioner of Woman Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Rufina Gurumyen, has urged parents in the state to be conscious of human traffickers who export women abroad for prostitution.

Hon. Gurumyen stated this on Tuesday in Jos while receiving Gloria Elisha and her child, Emmanuel Ikechukwu from the Acting Director of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Bintan Wuyep after they were evacuated from Libya to Nigeria due to increasing cases of slave trade and prostitution.

“Most Nigerians who travel to Libya in search of greener pasture did not find things easier over their. Some lost their lives in the process, some were amputated while others were forced to join prostitution to enable them survive.

“I want to caution parents in the state to be aware of human trafficking in the country, don’t give out your children to anybody to the city in the name of helping you, you child might be force into prostitution while those who are nursing ambition of going out should learn from the pathetic story of Gloria.”

She pledged the commitment of the rescue administration of Governor Simon Lalong to established a business for the returnee to enable her settle down and her child.

Hon. Gurumyen directed the Ministry to carry the lady to the hospital with her child for medical examination to ascertain her fitness before reunion her with her parents in Kanam Local Government Area of the State.

The Acting Director of State Emergency Management Agency, Bintan Wuyep said they will do everything within their jurisdiction to assist the vulnerable persons in the state and urged youths to believe in the prosperity of Nigeria rather than travelling abroad to be subjected into hardship and unending agony. 

North Central Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Slallu Lugard Bijimi who brought Gloria Elisha from Abuja to Plateau lamented  the pathetic story of Nigerians who travel illegally to Libya.

“Most Nigerians in Libya are not doing any tangible job rather than prostitution and immoral jobs. Some of them are dead while others are amputated because of brutality. Nigerians youths should learn from the pathetic stories of the returnees and believe in the economic development of the country.”
