A pressure group, Coalition of Civil Society for Peace and Good Governance (COSPAG) has commended the commander and men of Operation Safe Haven, a special task force saddled with the responsibility of providing security in parts of Bauchi, Plateau and Southern Kaduna for their efforts in the region during the yuletide.

The group further urged them to as a matter urgency assist the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to crack down on drug dealers in their areas of coverage to guarantee a crime free environment. Executive Director of COSPAG, Dr Christopher Yakubu stated this in Kafanchan while appraising the security situation in the area during the yuletide with youths and community leaders drawn from southern kaduna and plateau states.

“We urge men of Operation Safe Haven, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to quickly come to the aid of NDLEA to clamp down on drug users and dealers in Kafanchan and some parts of Plateau State as this is the greatest bane of security in the area currently. Drug abuse has contributed in no small way to the attendant crime and insecurity”.

The group also took the opportunity to condole with the people of Southern Kaduna over the gruesome murder of Etum Numana in Sanga Local Government Area as well as some other innocent residents of Nindem, and Angwa Mailafiayain Kaduna State.

“We are pleased with OPSH and the Nigeria police for the adequate measures they put in place during Christmas and new year celebrations which prevented the Sara Suka boys popular in Jos north local government Area of plateau state from perpetrating their usual crime of stabbing innocent Nigerians during such period.

“We particularly appreciate the operation safe haven (OPSH) who averted further lost of lives and properties due to their quick response and strategic approach adopted by deploying operational power bikes that have been patrolling the hinter lands which were hitherto, inaccessible.

“Although still in limited supply, the efficiency we witness now is a sharp departure from what we used to know when security agencies wait for hours after the incident before arrival. This is quite commendable and we must continue to support them to succeed by giving them reliable and credible information that will nip any attack in the bud”, Yakubu said .

“While not trying to hold brief for the security agencies since its not possible to have security agencies planted in all in our villages at the same time for short of manpower and logistics constraints, our communities can do a lot by preventing these guerilla attacks by being alert and informative.

We call on Governor Nasiru El-Rufai and the Commander of Operation Safe Haven to deploy more of the operatives on bikes to our areas since they have proven to be very effective in the terrain.
