In line with its commitment of bringing succour and relief to internally displaced people, the Plateau State Association UK, on Saturday 4th November 2017, had a cultural/award night under the theme “Supporting the Internally Displaced in Plateau”.
Hosted by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Simon Bako Lalong (Patron of the association) & his wife, the event was graced by top government functionaries and dignitaries –including Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Executive Governor of Imo State (Represented by Hon. Chike Okafor – House of Representatives Member), His Excellency Rtd. Major General Lawrence Onoja (Former military administrator of Plateau State) and his wife, HRH the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, HRH the Long Goemai – Miskhoom Martin Shaldas, HRH Emir of Kanam Alh Mu’azu Babangida, Hon Henry Yunkwap – Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, the Chief of Staff to the Plateau State Governor – Mr John Dafaan, the Commissioner of Tourism and Hospitality – Mr Peter John Mwadkon, the Director of Press Affairs to the Executive Governor – Mr Emmanuel Nanle, Chairman House Committee on Tourism – Hon Nyam Dareng, Mr Sunday Biggs and Mr John Naandoet.
In his speech, Governor Simon Lalong expressed his commitment and resolve to ending the cycle of killings in Plateau. He confirmed that numerous strategies and options were currently being considered, with the view of implementing them in the short term.
Speaking further, he confirmed that his primary prerogative as the chief executive of Plateau is the security of lives and the betterment of plight of its citizens – as such, he will do all that is humanly possible to move Plateau to excellence. He then made a passionate plea for all hands to be on deck in order to surmount the numerous challenges plaguing the state. He opined that all citizens must be vested in the Plateau project for any meaningful progress or development to be made.
Chairing the “fund raising” segment, Rtd Major General Lawrence Onoja echoed what the Governor had said and then opened the floor. Significant donations were raised with numerous pledges.
In addition to hosting the Plateau State UK, fund raising –Barrister Simon Lalong and his team are in London to attend the “World Tourism/Travel Market Exhibition Conference”, where they aim to showcase the Tourism potential and opportunities in Plateau, in a bid to woo foreign direct investment. In addition to this, they will also be holding numerous strategic meetings/parley about various segments of the Plateau economy.
