Day 4 of the African nation’s cup (AFCON 2013) matches saw the Elephants of Ivory Coast play against the Sparrow Hawks of Togo. Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast scored the opening goal after 7 minutes of play when Gervinho set a pass to him. Jonathan Ayite of Togo got an equalizer in the 47th minute just before half time courtesy of a corner kick from Serge Gakpe. A second Togo goal was disallowed by the referee who ordered the corner that produced it to be replayed. The game continued with both sides showing impressive performance until Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast played a free kick some yards away from the Togo’s goal towards Gervinho who got the ball and had a shot into the net. The game ended 2-1 in favour of Ivory Coast.
The second game of the day saw the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia play the Fennec Foxes of Algeria. The game went on for 90 minutes with both sides trying to outplay the other. It almost ended goalless until Youssef Msakni of Tunisia took a shot into the top right corner of the Algerian net in injury time. The game ended in Tunisia’s favour with a loan goal taking them to the second place on the table after Ivory Coast.
