Plateau SUBEB Opens Contract Biding for 118 Projects Across the State

The Plateau State government through the State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) have opened the contract biding of 118 projects to be executed across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The ceremony was presided by the Chairman of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board(PSUBEB), Prof Matthew Nshim Sule at the PSUBEB Head office in Jos on Monday 15th 2017.

Speaking during the bidding ceremony, Prof Sule charged contractors to keep to the terms of work especially the quality and specification.

The projects which will cover constructions of new additional classrooms, renovation of dilapidated structures across the state adding to the 293 similar projects awarded last year.

Responding to questions from journalists after the ceremony in his office, Prof Sule disclosed that the board is going to revoked non performing contracts awarded and will be given to competent persons inline with the contracts agreement entered into.

“There are projects hanging that were not carried out since 2013, when we were about to access the 2015 intervention funds, our attention was drawn to the fact that out of that 2013 awarded projects which amounts to N4 billion, there is utilized money as a result of financial infraction (taken away) by past administration and the government needed to make a refunds” he said.

“The state government has since refunded the sum of N1.2 billion which was used in carrying out these 118 projects across the 17 LGAs of the state. Though, there is an outstanding N800 million that the state government is going to make refunds the board will then make another advertisement for the awards of another projects and value is going to be placed on every kobo allocated to the board. If the state government will painfully refund the remaining balance it will go a long way in putting primary schools in a good shape for conducive learning for both the early child learning starting from nursery to primary levels across the state,” he further stated.

The board in 2015 awarded about 193 projects across the 17 LGAs of which about 15% of non performing contracts were recorded, pointing that the board will not take it likely again with any contractor on quality and specification.

Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Mr. Gabriel Lar stressed that the process is transparent and open to every contractor, he maintained that the 12 weeks specification is enough for them.

The bidding process witness the presence of personnel’s of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission(ICPC) to ensure both transparency and fairness is been held optimally.
