Concerned youths from the Plateau advocacy group “Plateau Speaks”, yesterday 3rd February 2017, took bold steps to visit, sympathise and empathise with victims of the Southern Kaduna Massacre. In a solidary visit to the area, the youth expressed their support for the decimated communities, outlining the shared heritage between Plateau and Kaduna states and the similar struggles between the areas as shared bond. They then donated relief materials, comprising sanitary materials, drugs, food, beddings, mosquito nets and blankets to the communities.

Receiving the group on behalf of the “Southern Kaduna Peoples Union – SOKAPU”, the chairman ad-hoc committee on relief materials, Mr. James Bala thanked the group for their show of brotherhood and kindness and re-iterated the shared heritage of the two regions (i.e., Plateau & Kaduna). He challenged the Federal Government to match rhetoric with action by quickly bringing an end to the imbroglio.

Speaking on behalf of Plateau Speaks, one of the cordinators, Mr Musa Ashoms expressed disappointment with the response of Government to the plight of the desperate victims. He called the attacks babaric and inhumane and appealed for utmost vigilance. Also speaking, Mr Dung of Plateau Speaks, appealed to the communities to remain peaceful, law abiding and invincible and prayed that God gives the communities the capacity to forgive and live as brothers.

Speaking to ViewPointNigeria, one of the Youth Leaders at Goska community (one of the affected communities), expressed immense happiness at the visit – he challenged journalists to tell the story of the massacre far and wide in order to bring succour to the people. And said “the Southern Kaduna spirit remains invincible” and that all these challenges will be surmounted through peaceful and lawful means. He called on the communities to mobile and return to their farms ahead of the farming season.
