Jos — The Plateau State Government has signed six agreements with China’s National One Belt One Road Fund Management Co., Ltd. This  is as a result of Governor Simon Bako Lalong’s visit to China earlier this year to showcase Plateau state’s tourism potentials.

The agreements entered between the Plateau state government and the company, covered key areas such as Tourism, Education, Water Resources and Energy, Agriculture and Urban development.

Nigeria’s ambassador to China, Mr Olusola Onadipe, was one of the witnesses at the signing of the agreements.

In the same vein, the Chairman, Plateau Investment and Property Development Company (PIPC), Ezekiel Gomos said the State government was targeting 7,500 housing units in the area of urban development with a proposed housing unit of 4,500 in the northern senatorial zone and 1,500 in each of the central and southern zones of the state.

The signing of these MoUs is great news for the Plateau economy, as such investments will massively increase the GDP of the state and create job opportunities. The initiation of these MoU’s gives massive credibility to the efforts of Governor Lalong to steer the state from wholesome dependence on FG’s subvention. It would be recalled that Lalong earlier in April, along Governor Ortom of Benue and other top Plateau functionaries visited China to entice the investment community on opportunities in solid minerals, agriculture, urban development etc.

The signing of these MoUs obviously does not translate to actual investments, as such savviness and dexterity on the part of the Plateau state government to bring these investment’s to fruition -will be key.
