Further confirming the poor security state of affairs in Plateau state, gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Wednesday night attacked the house of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Prof. Sebastian Seddi Maimako.

The house located around the Eto Baba area of Jos, was said to have come under attack when men numbering 6 were said to have forcefully gained access to the house, asking for the where-abouts of the VC, while assaulting people in the house.

The policeman stationed at the house who attempted to fend off the attack was said to have been shot at point blank range, killing him.

ViewPointNigeria gathered that at the time of the attack, the vice chancellor was out of the country, but that his family were severely traumatized by the experience.

Even though many have adduced that the gunmen were robbers, several others have opined that they could have been hired assassins given the bitterness that engulf the VC nomination process where several individuals felt aggrieved that they were systematically excluded for vying for the post.

When ViewPointNigeria tried to contact the Plateau state police command and the University of Jos for comments, they said they will not speak to newsmen directly but that a statement will be issued shortly regarding the incident.
