The Chief Medical Director of Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Prof. Christopher Sabo Yilgwan, has marked his 50th birthday with a reflective and thanksgiving celebration held within the hospital premises, bringing together management, staff, patients, childhood friends, and other December-born celebrants.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Yilgwan expressed profound gratitude to God for the gift of life, describing his journey as a testament to divine preservation and grace. He recounted his humble beginnings, revealing that he was born prematurely and spent the first three months of his life in an incubator.
According to him, the hospital has remained central to his life story from birth to the present day.
“From birth till today, my life has revolved around the hospital. I was admitted at birth, and since then my life has been in the hospital. It feels only right to celebrate my birthday in a place that represents God’s preservation over my life,” he said.
The CMD appreciated the hospital’s management and staff for their unwavering support and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the institution to ensure improved service delivery.
“My desire is to move this hospital forward. Together, we will continue to provide quality healthcare services to our people at an affordable cost,” Prof. Yilgwan stated.
In a goodwill message, a childhood friend of the celebrant and Deputy Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mr. Edward Dawam, shared fond memories of their early years. He described Prof. Yilgwan as a principled, cheerful individual who consistently stands for what is right, noting that his life journey is a clear testimony of God’s grace.
Dawam also encouraged patients within the hospital not to lose hope, reminding them that the Celebrant himself began life as a hospital patient and has grown to become a source of inspiration and encouragement to many.
The Head of Department Nursing Services, Mrs. Lami Chiroma, officiated the cake-cutting ceremony and offered prayers drawn from Psalm 34:4, declaring that the heart desires of the celebrant would not be cut short.
Highlights of the celebration included special prayers, candle blowing, fireworks, group photographs, and goodwill messages from staff and management.
Dignitaries at the event included the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Saidu Barnabas; Director of Administration, Mr. Jacob Dung Bot; Head of Department, Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Bulus Jonathan; Legal Officer, Barr. Tani Lukden; Doctors and Durses on duty, members of KOSA, and other hospital Staff.
