The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) has warned corporate organizations in the State, especially banks and other institutions and individuals to pay their taxes or face outright prosecution.
The Acting Chairman, PSIRS, Mr Dashe Arlat, disclosed, Tuesday in a chat with Journalists, in Jos, saying “enough is enough’’ of evasion and delay in tax payment.
He said that PSIRS has been given a special court for the prosecution of defaulters by the state government and that it has set machinery in motion to start the trial of some corporate bodies operating in the state.
“We have two banks that are already on our radar and we will soon summon them to court to tell us why they should not pay their taxes or remit their staff PAYE to the State government.
“This government owes everyone staying in the state the responsibility to provide the desired and needed social amenities and infrastructures, which comes when taxes are promptly payed, ’’ he explained.
Arlat disclosed that Lawyers of the service were preparing the papers against any defaulting institutions or individuals who have refused to cooperate with it (PSIRS).
“We are sending out our staff to capture every Hotel, Brothels and petty traders on the street doing business to obtain and pay for business permits and Annual tax.
According to him, “there are a lot of hotels and business outfits that are operating without business permits or paying taxes, which is criminal and must be stopped forthwith.
He said that the service would liaise with the Ministries of Commerce and Industries and Land and survey to ensure that no one was left out.
The Chairman expressed the readiness of PSIRS to boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the state by 40 per cent this year.
He said that the service was going to collaborate with the the Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) and the 17 Local Governments Areas to ensure that such a dream becomes a reality.
