As the crisis in Nasarawa state continues to escalate, approximately 7000 people from the affected communities are said to have fled into the neighbouring Qu’an Pan Local Government area of Plateau state.
Report reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that these refugees, who are said to have continued to move out of the area in their droves, could be seen overwhelmingly in townships such as Kurgwi, Kwande and Namu areas of the Local Government. The majority of the displaced persons were from Obi, Alakyo and Lafia communities, where the disturbance between the Eggon and Alago ethnic groups was said to be rife.

The majority of the displaced persons were from Obi, Alakyo and Lafia communities, where the disturbance between the Eggon and Alago ethnic groups was said to be rife.
A few of the victims confirmed that they had to flee Obi Township because of the fierce battle between the ethnic militia, which was said to have lasted several days without intervention from the police. The refugees claimed that no security personnel were drafted to quell the violence and that sophisticated weapons as well as local charms were used widely by both groups.
When contacted for comments, the chairman of Plateau State Emergency Relief Agency, Alh. Alhassan Barde confirmed the influx of refugees from the affected communities, stating that approximately 5000 of them were scattered around the Qu’an Pan area of the state.
He further confirmed that the State Government has already responded proactively by providing them with basic amenities to alleviate their suffering.
