News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that over 4,000 people in Pankshin Local Government Area have benefited from a recent medical outreach organized by Member Representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam constituency, Timothy Golu.
The team leader of the outreach, Dr Emmanuel Sambo said the program had over 100 medical personnel with different specialties in attendance, the program spanned for three days (Friday to Sunday).
The program which was organized in conjunction with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and Project Zero, treated over 1,020 people with eye problems, providing free glasses to those with serious cases.
While speaking, Dr. Emmanuel said, “A total of 116 different types of surgeries including: eye, dental, Hernia, Appendix, Lipoma, Ganglion, Hydrocele, among others were performed.
“The surgeries were performed on both adults and children who came from various communities within Pankshin /Kanam/Kanke Constituency. They were also given free drugs following treatment”.
In his remarks, he said the program was a huge success as people came out in large numbers to receive health care.
Golu promised to replicate the same medical outreach in Kanam and Kanke Local Government Areas until all the people in these areas receive proper medical care.
HIV and Hepatitis screenings were also carried out with counselors on ground who assisted in counseling the patients on what to do.
Golu said that preparations were on for the drilling of boreholes in various communities in the constituency to alleviate the problem of water scarcity being experienced by the people.
Commissioner for Health Dr Kamshak Kuden had on Friday, while flagging off the program, commended Golu for the gesture and called on other elected office holders to take a cue from him.
Kuden said that the state government intended to commence similar free medical outreach in some local government areas in the state to enhance the well being of the people.
