Uni-Jos Governing Council Re-appoints Deputy Vice-Chancellors

The 12th Governing Council of the University of Jos has re-appointed the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors of the University for a second term of two (2) years.
They are Professor Nelson Agaba Ochekpe as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Professor Teresa Mwuese Nmadu as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
The Governing Council at its meeting of 19th December, 2016 considered the nomination of the two Principal officers by the University Senate and approved their re-appointment with effect from 8th December, 2016.
The newly re-appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Nelson Ochekpe is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists as well as Member, Nigeria Association of Academic Pharmacists alongside his membership of other academic and professional bodies. A 1980 graduate of Pharmacy from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ochekpe obtained a Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Analysis from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland in 1988. He took up appointment with the University of Jos in March 1989 and has also had stints at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Professor Ochekpe has collaborated and contributed in many research projects in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has written and contributed to many publications including peer reviewed journals, technical reports and research articles. He has also supervised many theses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.
A Member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Professor Ochekpe hails from Otukpo in Benue State and is married to Mrs Sarah Ochekpe and they are blessed with children.
The newly re-appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Teresa Nmadu, a Professor of Human Resource and Strategic Management, is a 1979 graduate of Business Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. Professor Nmadu obtained a Masters Degree in Personnel and Labour Relations Management from the University of Pittsburgh, USA in 1985 and a Ph.D in Management from the University of Jos in 2006. Mrs Nmadu is a 2015/2016 Fellow of the International Women’s Leadership Foundation; Member, The Academy of Management, Nigeria; Member, United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship Educators; Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Management; Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, among other Professional bodies.
Professor Nmadu who is the first woman to be appointed to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the University of Jos, took up appointment with the University in January 1993 and has held several academic and administrative positions including Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, Director, Division of General Studies, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Head of Department, Management Sciences, among others.
Professor Nmadu has to her credit produced several Ph.D and Masters Degree graduates and authored or co-authored many publications including chapters in books, articles in learned journals and technical reports. She has attended many national and international conferences, workshops and seminars in addition to being a member of the Governing and Editorial Boards of several academic and research bodies. She hails from Lavun, Niger State and is married to Mr Nathaniel Nmadu. They are blessed with children and grandchildren.
