The 2025 Nzem Berom festivities commenced in earnest, the Zere Beauty Pageant and Gwom Lwele (King of Music) Preliminaries, held concurrently on Tuesday, 29th April, 2025, at the Lala Berom Jos Museum in Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Twelve contestants from the Berom Districts, excluding Vwang, vied for the title of Berom Zere (Berom Beauty Queen). The event featured a cooking skills display, where contestants prepared Berom local dishes.
The Gwom Lwele preliminary stage showcased emerging music artistes’ talents, entertaining the guests with live performances.
The final stage to select the new Zere Berom and Gwom Lwele (Berom King/Queen of Music) will take place on Wednesday, 30th April, 2025, at Tamarald Event Centre, Jos, starting with a red carpet event at 1 pm, followed by the main event at 2 pm.
Barrister Solomon Mwanti, representing the Zere/Gwom Lwele Subcommittee, stated that the event’s objective is to identify and cultivate talents for the mutual benefit of the Berom Nation and humanity. He encouraged guests to unwind and appreciate the beauty pageant and live performances by the Gwol Lwele contestants.
Da Gyang Dudu, President of the Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO), praised all contestants for displaying their talents. He indicated that this year’s Nzem Berom Cultural Festival offers a wide range of engaging, captivating, and informative activities.
Senator Simon Mwadkwon, Chairman of the Main Planning Committee, recognized the vital role of the Berom Women in societal transformation, emphasizing the theme of this year’s event as “Celebrating the Prowess, Gallantry, and Resilience of Berom Women: Past and Present”. He underscored the impressive achievements of Berom women in education, politics, military, various professions, sports, businesses, and other economic activities.
He commended their resilience and dedication to the development of the Berom Nation, Plateau State, and Nigeria.
The event was well-attended, with medical outreach, other side attractions and the sale of local delicacies.
