2018 Nzem Berom Holds, Gbong Gwom Jos Confers Traditional Titles to Illustrious Sons/Daughter, Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro & Others

One of the biggest Cultural Festival in Nigeria and Africa, Nzem Berom held today 11th May, 2018 at Rwang Pam Township Stadium Jos, Plateau State.
The event hosted by Berom Educational & Cultural Organization (BECO) had the theme “Berom: Irresistible Land, People, Culture and Agricultural Economy”
The grand finale held today after symposium was organized on Tuesday and the Zere Beauty Pageant as well as Hwong’o Pwana (Local Grinding of a Special Berom Cereal).
The symposium with topic “The Berom Way of Life: Culture and Agriculture” had Rev. Prof. Y. P. Mancha, a Professor of Breeding and Genetics and Head of Department of Animal Production in the famous Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Bauchi State.
The ‘Hwong’o Pwana” competition was won by Ngo Jummai Dung Danladi from Vwang District of Jos South while the first and second Runner-ups were from Riyom and Heipang Districts respectively.
The Zere Beauty Pageant which had 12 maidens across the Districts was keenly contested with Miss Peace Ntyang Joshua of Gyel District emerging the winner and crowned as Zere Berom (Miss Berom). The first and second runner-ups were Miss Joyce Pam Samuel of Heipang District Barkin Ladi LGA and Miss Dung Noro Joseph of Du District Jos South LGA respectively. The symposium, Hwong’o Pwana and Zere Berom competitions all held at Langfield Leisure Park Little Rayfield Jos, Plateau State.
Chairman of the 2018 Nzem Berom, Senator David Mark who was represented by the former Minister of Interior, Hon. Abba Moro appreciated the Berom Nation for giving him the opportunity to be the Chairman of the event. He eulogized the resilience, peaceful and industrious dispositions of the Berom.
Vice President of BECO Da Iliya Choji Kim in his speech thanked Plateau State Governor Lalong for his esteemed presence and supports. He said the event is not only about celebration but a platform that demonstrates love for humanity, peace, prosperity and progress not only for themselves and their neighbors but for everyone.
Da Choji Kim called on government to respond decisively to the needs of the uprooted, disposed and displaced. He said a large number of the people were dislocated from the villages and are yearning to go return back. Da Choji said there is sizeable number of orphans, widows, sick, unemployed and absolutely poor victims of unrelenting attacks of several years visited on the people. The economic and psycho social burdens arising from the attacks are too much and therefore deserve some concrete government intervention.
The Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman Plateau State Council of Chiefs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, OFR welcomed and appreciated those who graced the occasion. He challenged the Federal Government to increase security for people of the Middle Belt as they are vulnerable to incessant attacks as they are being threatened and killed on daily basis. He urged the traditional rulers to ensure they curb the growing cases of cultism, drug abuse and other criminal acts.
Plateau State Governor was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden. Prof. Tyoden said the government will continue to consolidate on the return of peace. He commended the Berom nation for her commitment to peace building on the Plateau and peaceful festival.

2. Da Stephen Dusu Lodam as ‘Gwom Badu Berom’
3. Da Patrick Dung Pwajok as ‘Gwom Jik Berom’
4. Air Commodore (Rtr) Da Ishaku Gang Mwadkon as ‘Gbong Suga Berom’
5. Justice Ibrahim Auta Ndahi as ‘Turakin Jos’
6. Ngo Florence Baku Jambol as ‘Suga Beha Berom’
7. AIG Moh’d Hamisu Ali (Rtr) as ‘Makaman Jos’
8. Lt. Gen. Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro (Rtr), CFR, Mni as ‘Jaraman Jos’
9. Elder Pozo Philip Yakubu as ‘Walin Jos’
10. Malam Nyang Chaimang as ‘Jakadan Jos’
There were display of Berom Cuisine and artifacts.
The event had in attendance the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Solomon Selcap Dalung, illustrious sons/daughters of the Berom Nation, Traditional Leaders and dance groups who spiced up the events with their performances.
