As the polity continues to heat up ahead of the 2015 gubernatorial poll in Plateau State, the People of Qua’an Pan Local Government of Plateau South on Monday presented a governorship nomination form to the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr.Ignatius Longjan, urging him to contest.

Speaking at the presentation which was done at the Deputy Governor’s Lodge in Rayfield Jos, Member representing Qua’an-Pan North Constituency in the State’s House of Assembly, Hon. Joe Dawam, said the call for the service of the Deputy Governor was initiated by the people of Local Government and other LGSs in the State.

“We the people of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area and the Southern Senatorial Zone have associated ourselves fully with the Deputy Governor’s progressive vision for Plateau State.

“We have resolved and are urging our Son and Father, Hon. Ignatius Datong Longjan to come out and contest the 2015 Governorship election in Plateau State without further delay as this is our modest contribution towards the actualization of our collective dream to occupy Government House come May, 29th, 2015.

Dawam maintained that, “We the people of the State deem it necessary to not only compel him to vie for the governorship but have gone ahead to purchase and expression of interest form to enable him vie for the governorship race in the forthcoming elections.

In his remarks, an elder statesman and a former close ally of Governor Jonah Jang, Bulus Dareng, described Longjan as a committed and loyal Deputy to Governor.

He maintained that the deputy governor played a vital role in the Jang led administration.

Dareng who was a close friend of the State Governor, but now have fallen apart insist that Longjan has the qualities of a leader and called on him to obey the call of the people of the State.

Responding, the Deputy Governor, Ignatius Longjan, said he remains thankful to Governor Jang,s fruitful and successful administration which has impacted positively on the socio-economic life of the people as well as the environmental, human and physical infrastructural development of the State.

Longjan said, “The people of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area are sincerely grateful to Governor Jonah Jang, CON, for the rare opportunities so far given to their sons and daughters to serve in various capacities in his administration.

He then declared that he will contest the governorship election in the State.

It is worthy to note that mix reactions continue to trail what is believe to a purported plan by Governor Jonah Jang to handover to someone from his ethnic group of Berom in 2015, as a former National Chairman of the Nigerian Population Commission, Chief Samuila Danko Makama has declared that the people of the State will not support another governor from the Berom ethnic group.

Makama, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stated this in Jos last weekend, while reacting to reports making rounds that Senator Gyang Pwajok is to succeed Jang in 2015.

But, the former NPC boss said, “I told Gov Jang when he called us to a stakeholders meeting to ask for our support for Senator Pwajok as governor in 2015 that Plateau people will not support government candidate.

“Plateau people will not only reject government candidate, we will reject another Berom candidate to replace Jang in 2015.

“Gov Jang is a Berom man and he has been in power for two terms of eight years, the Berom people should allow other tribes to also produce a governor, we have over 50 ethnic groups in this State, allowing only Berom to rule after eight years of Jang amount to perpetuating ethnic hegemony.

“In the spirit of equity and fairness, the Berom should allow other zones to take the governorship slot in 2015, we don’t want one particular tribe to dorminate and enslave others.

Makama maintained that stakeholders in the State will soon form a forum for “equity and justice” to produce the next governor from another zone.

Stressing that, “We have to respect the existing zoning arrangement in the state”.
