Former Commissioner for Health in Plateau State, Dr. Patrick Dakum, has said the imposition of another Berom indigene as governor of Plateau State after Governor Jonah Jang is a test of the will of the people.

He believes the people of the state must unite and fight injustice.

Jang had reportedly anointed the Senator representing Plateau North, Mr. Gyang Pwajok, as his successor.

But the former health commissioner said Jang might be creating an atmosphere for instability and chaos in Plateau if he goes ahead with what he described as his “skewed” plans.

Dakum, who was also a Commissioner for Information, said it was not only inconceivable, but it stood logic on its head for the outgoing governor to contemplate the imposition of his kinsman on the stage for another eight years.

Speaking to our correspondent in an interview on Tuesday, Dakum said Plateau people had always respected the principle of fairness and equity in choosing who governed them.

He added that it was because of this unwritten zoning arrangement that enabled Jang to become a governor in the first place, wondering why the governor could jettison the time-honoured tradition.

He wondered why Jang should choose to plunge the state into anarchy by his action.

Dakum, who is now the Country Director of the Institute of Human Virology, said, “I hope that the governor knows that what he is doing because his action is capable of plunging the entire state into uncontrollable crisis.
