Plateau Youth Council urges Plateau Youths to be peaceful during protest

PRESS RELEASE

The attention of the leadership of the Plateau Youth Council, the umbrella body of all youth groups domiciled on the Plateau has been drawn to many conflicting positions by individuals and organizations in regard to the mass protest scheduled to hold on Thursday 1st August, 2024 across the country.

As a leadership of the Youths on the Plateau, we recognize the fact that Nigerians, especially the medium and lower classes, have been thrown into severe hardship and hunger as a result of some government policies.

As a constituted authority, we equally recognize the fact that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria gives citizens, the fundamental right to show dissatisfaction with certain policies of Government through peaceful demonstration to demand for solutions.

In view of the fundamental human right granted every nigerian citizen to peacefully demonstrate to show their grievances, the leadership of the Plateau State Youth wishes to call on all Plateau people, particularly plateau youths who may wish to come out for the protest to do so within the armbit of the law.

We wish to, therefore, strongly call on all relevant security agencies, especially the Nigerian police to ensure adequate security cover for all those who will be participating in the protest to ensure that our youths are well guarded against any form of violence.

To our teeming Youth, we encourage you to remain law abiding, cooperate with security agents be peaceful about the protest to ensure that it does not escalate into violence of whatever sort.
