Plateau State Malaria Elimination Program Team Assure Citizens of Its Commitment to Prevent Children Against Malaria

The Plateau State Malaria Elimination Program Team has assured the Citizens of Plateau State of its readiness to put together measures that will ensure more penetration of Children between the ages of 3 Months to 59 Months to be reached with malaria preventive medication by the Team which is working assiduously to eradicate malaria.

Team Lead of the Plateau State Malaria Elimination Program, Nrs Kizito Ndak who was accompanied by the Programme Manager Malaria Consortium and other officers of the Team dropped the hints in Jos the Plateau State Capital during a Press Conference on Wednesday 24th July, 2024.

He said 12,000 personnel were engaged to drive the campaign and demand creation across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State which has made it possible for over 950,000 children have access to the preventive medication provided by Malaria Consortium in the first cycle.

He urged the citizens to avail there Children (age 3 Months – 59 Months) to access the medication which has been distributed to all the 17 Local Government Areas in Plateau State as the second cycle commence on Thursday 25th July, 2024 across the State.

He lauded the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for releasing the counterpart funds which made the project possible and the engagement of 60 Supervisors who are domiciled in communities across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State to augment the already existing 34 State Supervisors that the Malaria Consortium has engaged.
He said the additional supervisors are critical in direct engagement with Communities, working with the over 7,000 Community Drug Distributors (CDD) and providing swift feedbacks to the Team.
According to him, the State Government and Malaria Consortium place high premium on the ongoing activities to achieve a healthier children population.
He said the idea is to ensure that children below 5 years are prevented from contracting malaria which will translate to a significant decline in mortality rate.

He appreciated the Citizens for their cooperation so far and said more need to be done if the overall objectives of the project is to be achieved. He said more awareness need to be carried out to prevent malaria and mortality rate in Children below 5 Years.

He said the target is to reach a million children and with the 950,000 children already reached, it is important to do more since Malaria Consortium has made available drugs that can be administered to 2 million children.
