Command Secondary School Jos Assure Parents of Purposeful Grooming of Students and Quality Education

The Command Secondary School Jos, Plateau State has assured Parents and Guardians of its unwavering commitment to the purposeful grooming of Students and ensuring that they are provided with quality education, good moral upbringing and discipline to make them useful to themselves, Families and the Nation at large.

Acting Commandant of the Citadel of learning Lieutenant Colonel HB Yusuf made the vow at the 37th Graduation/Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the School which held on Saturday 27th July, 2024 at Maj. Gen. TB Ogundeko Hall of the School.
He said the School will continue to provide quality academic training that will add significant values to the lives of the Nigerian Children who are coming from Primary School into intelligent, well disciplined and industrious Students.

According to him, the School since its inception has contributed immensely to the educational development of Nigeria youths as evident in the excellent performance of the Students during the recently concluded Army Literary Competition and Nigerian Army Education Research Development and Innovation Exhibition 2024 were they performed creditably well.
In his words “Command Secondary Schools are rated the best Secondary Schools on West Africa because of their available track records of excellence, especially in academics training”
He hinted that discipline among students and staff has is satisfactory which has led to the exceptional academic excellence being recorded.

He applauded the efforts being deployed by the management Team, Staff, Parent Teacher Association and the Alumni of the School towards its growth and progress over the Years.
He highlighted some of the challenges being faced by the School to include infrastructural deficit, absence of School Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre, non regularisation of contract Staff and others which he said when address will significantly improve the overall performance of the School.
He appreciated the support given to the School by the Nigerian Army.

Special Guest of Honour, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven in his remarks said the event provides an avenue for Students and Teachers who have distinguished themselves to be celebrated and encouraged to continue doing well.


Maj. Gen. Abubakar who was represented by the Chief of Staff Operation Safe Haven, Brigadier General Michael Agi congratulated the Graduating Students for their undoubted determination, zeal and doggedness exhibited throughout the period of their stay in School. He also commended them for doing well in terms of discipline, patriotism and academics saying their school records speak volume of their individual and collective achievements.
He expressed optimism that the Students will excel in their future endeavours of they sustain academic excellence and good behaviour.
He said “As graduating students you have tasks ahead of you. As leaders of tomorrow. I want you all to remain resilient towards your goals and your future endeavors in life. Do not allow vices to debar you from achieving your purpose in life. I persuade you all students to imbibe good character at all times as you go on to fulfill your dreams. Always develop good self concept of yourself. I must commend the academics and administrative staff of the school for their diligence and effort and making better the standard of training in the school”
He lauded the Commandant of the School on what he described as mirage of achievements recorded within the shortest period of his assumption of duty.

Guest of Honour, Major General Bello Tsoho the Corps Commander Education Nigerian Army who was represented by the Director Education Services of 3 Division Nigerian Army Jos, Lieutenant Colonel Tharfa Musa appreciated the discipline, hard work and resilience demonstrated by the Students throughout their academic pursuits at the School.
He also appreciated parents, guardians, the School management and Teachers for the roles they played in moulding the Students who he described as future leaders of the Nation.

Guest Speaker of the occasion, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun the Director General Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Jos in his presentation on the topic “Skills Acquisition: A Panacea for Unemployment in the 21st Century” hinted that skills acquisition is crucial in addressing the rising unemployment in the Country.
Represented by Mr. Akpan Idongesit Asuquo the Director of Standardization, Certification and Consultancy Services Department ITF made a strong advocacy for the prioritisation of skill acquisition and the need to overhaul the educational curriculum to accommodate the integration of hands-on practical skills-based training into same from Primary to tertiary level instead of the over-concentration on the theoretical aspect that has not yielded the needed results. He said the present educational system often fails to equip students with the practical skills needed in the labour market. According to the Expert, the inclusion of technical and vocational education and training expand and modernize institutions to make them more attractive and relevant to current job market demand.
He cited population growth, inadequate education system, economic instability, skill mismatch, lack of industrialisation and others as causes of the rising unemployment which has led to poverty, increased crime, decreased quality of life, Insecurity and others.

He urged Nigerians to prioritise skills acquisition as it is one of the critical solutions to unemployment.
He further emphasized the need for technical skills development if unemployment is to be addressed.
According to him, skills acquisition enhances employability, reduces crime and promotes diverse job opportunities that leads to National development.

In their separate remarks, the Head Boy of the School Bot Adinok Dauda and Head Girl Ogbonna Stephen all appreciated the School management, Staff and Teachers for grooming them to be useful individuals who will add value to the Society. They promised to be good Ambassadors of the School wherever they are.

The epoch making event was graced by Chairman of the occasion Ademola Kasumu, Father of the Day Chief Joshua Dariye who was represented by Mr. Gideon Yiltu, Mother of the Day Mrs Virginia Jang, Royal Father of the Day Mallam Bala Ali Mohammed, other distinguished invited Guests, Families, Friends and well wishers of the Graduating Students and School.

Highlights of the event were the launching of School Magazine, cultural dances, presentation of prizes to deserving Students/Staff and presentation of honorarium.
