Zulum, Sadiya Farouk, UN officials hold virtual briefings on Northeast humanitarian needs

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Thursday participated in virtual briefing on steep deterioration of humanitarian situation in the North East Nigeria.


Minister of Humanitarian, Disaster Risk Management And Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, UN Resident and Humanitarian Cordinator in Nigeria , Sir, Edward Kallon, Heads of the other UN agencies, and Representatives of the INGOs have attended the briefing.


The meeting was aimed at raising profile of Nigeria emergency and mobilize funds, held virtually on Thursday 13th August, 2020 between 10:00 – 12:00 hours. Stakeholders from member states have provided updates of different perspectives.


The meeting also informs donors and media on the vulnerable people’s needs and ongoing humanitarian need response in the North East.
The people in need of humanitarian support raises from 7.1 million people in 2019 to 7.9 million at the beginning of 2020. According to the UN database, humanitarian response plan funding is at historical low in 2020. Of the requirement of $1.08 billion, only $316.9 million have been received so far.


UN OCHA coordinates the global emergency response to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. advocates for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all.
OCHA also coordinates global humanitarian funding appeals and manages global and country-specific humanitarian response funds.


The United Nations Office For Cordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) have been working in support of the Nigerian Government to scale up responses.
