ViewPointNigeria can confirm that Mr. Yilji Gomwalk has been nominated as running mate to Senator GNS Pwajok (the PDP Gubernatorial flagbearer in the forthcoming elections).
Yilji Gomwalk’s name was sent to the PDP headquarters in both Jos and Abuja this morning, for ratification and confirmation and an announcement in that regard is imminent later in the day or tommorrow.
Yilji Gomwalk was the commissioner for Lands and Survey in the past dispensation and is the son of the late visionary leader, Joseph Gomwalk. He oversaw several projects including the Jos GIS Mapping, road delineation amongst several others.
Speaking exclusively to an inside source within the Government this morning, the source praised the commitment, foresight, resolve and work ethic of Yilji Gomwalk, saying he would be a massive addition to the redemption team.
He said, “you can see that the governor has remained true to his word of supporting young and dynamic candidates – this is indeed a man of character, who keeps to his word and does not waver even in the face of opposition or challenges.
Speaking further, he said “The combination of the very intellectual GNS Pwajok and the forstitious Yilji Gomwalk is a team that is unbeatable. These two are the best that Plateau has to offer, they would show great leadership, dedication and foresight and I am confident that Plateau people will rally behind them.”
ViewPointNigeria analysts consider this to be a very calculated and strategic move by the GNS Pwajok camp to woo people in the central zone, who are currently the key battleground area -since it is almost certain that the Southern senatorial zone would vote overwhelmingly for Simon Lalong because of thier stance on zoning, and the Northern zone (perhaps excluding the Hausa block of Jos North) would vote massively for GNS Pwajok because of their stance against zoning.
In view of these two opposing stance, it is clear that the central zone is the key decider in the battle and therefore this move is viewed by many as a calculated attempt to woo voters in the central zone through Yilji Gomwalk.
At this stage, it is unclear where Simon Lalong would pick his deputy from, but this move by the GNS Pwajok camp, may definitely force him to look in the central zone for a running mate – given that they are the key battleground area in 2015.
