News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that former Nigeria ambassador to Switzerland Alhaji Yahaya Kwande may again present himself as a contestant for the traditional stool of Longkwo of Kwande in Quanpan local government area of Plateau State following the favourable judgment of the Court of Appeal that declared him eligible to contest.

It would be recalled that Ambassador Yahaya Kwande was in the past enthroned as the Longkwo following the death of the late Longkwo, Homkwap Sulem in 1988, but was later dethroned after 8 months, following a court case filed by  Mr Alexander Jibrin and 13 other princes who argued he was not eligible for the throne.

However, a recent judgement by Justice Peter Igbeh of the court of Appeal averred that the evident presented, showed that Yahaya Kwande was one of the princes of Kwo chiefdom and was therefore eligible to contest.

In a recent discussion with Journalist, Kwande stated that following the positive judgement, he may again present himself for the office, adding: “I do not want to talk on this issue because the judgment has not been given to me to study to know its content, but in any case I will still re-contest if need be.”

Tracked for comments, one of the challengers, Mr Alex Jibrin, told Journalist that he was yet to see the court ruling. He said “Although, I have not conferred with the remaining 12 princes on the development, but for me as an individual I will not challenge the Appeal Court ruling at the Supreme Court, and I do not think any of the princes would do same,”. He added that there was no need to prolong the Longkwo stool dispute, stating that they would follow tradition and withdraw the case whilst setting the machinery for the selection of Longkwo.
