Our attention has once again been drawn to moves by some individuals and groups who having failed to secure the PDP governorship ticket at the just concluded PDP gubernatorial primaries in Plateau State; to cause distractions and eventually scuttle the submission of the result of the primaries due to close in a few days.
It is unfortunate that with the transparent and open manner in which the primaries was held, some aspirants, individuals and groups would even call the process otherwise. For the avoidance of doubt, the said primaries was not only beamed live on the television arm of PRTVC but live commentaries were also run on the radio. It is therefore left to the teeming population of Plateau people and others who watched proceedings live on the PRTVC and PRTV channel on NTA Startimes Satellite to determine.
Press Statement released by Plateau Patriots
One wonders why a particular group of people are hell bent on causing disaffection and division in Plateau State along, ethnic tribal and zonal lines. Their first attempt was to stop the primaries from holding through obtaining a frivolous injunction restraining the PDP from holding the primaries but thanks to the Federal High Court which refused to be drawn into a matter that was no justiceable; the case was thrown out.
On the day of the primaries, all kinds of antics aimed at stopping the election from holding were on display by thugs purportedly accredited and admitted into the venue to serve as agents of some aspirants. The brazen display of acts which could best be described as thuggery by some of the aspirants and some elders is most unfortunate. To say that some of the aspirants and elders are selfish, egoistic and only out to pursue personal ambitions and nothing to the benefit of plateau people is to say the least, painful.
The walk-out by some aspirants having failed severally to stop the primaries, was most embarrassing as no delegates participated in or agreed to walk-out. In a shameful manner, they all came back and participated in the primaries. The question then is, how was the primaries manipulated to favour one candidate as being peddled by aspirants who lost out.
We have it on good authority that the group of aspirants and individuals who should rather join hands with those who emerged to ensure that peaceful and credible elections leading to the emergence of good leaders in 2015 should be held, are busy lobbying in Abuja to again, try to stop submission of the name of the gubernatorial aspirant who won the primaries. We wish to state unequivocally that the delegates who voted at the PDP primaries made their voices loud and clear through the ballot and any attempt by the aspirants, their cohorts and any colluding individuals in Abuja to tamper with the results of the PDP governorship primaries election in Plateau State will face stiff resistance. The delegates have voted and any attempt to subvert their will is to call for chaos.
We, as members of The Patriots of Plateau have continued to reiterate that the unity of Plateau State and Nigeria is bigger than any individual’s interest. We are therefore not going to relent in our efforts to continue to call for greater unity of purpose for the good of plateau people, irrespective of tribe, tongue, ethnicity, religion or political affiliation.
