It will be recalled that youths from the 17 LGAs of Plateau State were mobilized by PYC and trained by the government through Plateau Micro Finance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), into vocational training and skills acquisition, which climaxed with an entrepreneurial and value re-orientation training and graduation ceremony held at Crest Hotel in December 2017. Over 700 Youths from various districts of the state took part in the training and skills acquisition with 50 participants per local government. After the training, reports has it that many of the trainees where not given starter packs and monies to start up their chosen vocation in reaction to that news, the Chairman of Plateau Youths Council (PYC) comrade. Fabong jimjang said in the initials of the partnership, PYC admonish PLASMIDA not to give monies but to encourage the youths with materials to start with,
While responding to ViewpointNigeria reporter Dakwom Lonngul, Comr.Fabong Jimchang said that “many of such initiative are on the way to empower plateau youths through employment or engagement”
As to the evaluation of the first phase of the initiative, the Chairman of PYC is optimistic that the aim had been achieved because many have acquired disaggregate skills and are now putting food on their tables using their new found skills
The Chairman further gave the Governor of plateau State RT.Hon Simon Bako Lalong through PLASMIDA a pass mark saying “they have exceeded his expectation”
Similar, the Director General of PLASMIDA while responding to the issue of starter packs said that the issue is nothing as they have informed those concerned that were trained under ITF which if ready, their starter packs will be distributed but all those trained under the partnership with PYC have all collected.
The Director further revealed that apart from the payment of the trainers in various skills the sum of fifteen Thousand Naira was paid to participants as transportation for three months by the government of plateau state.
Many of the participants while responding to the claims raised above agreed to the fact that transportation and starter packs where issued to them and thanked the Governor, PLASMIDA and PYC for the initiative.
