The wife of the executive president of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu has donated the sum of five hundred million naira (N500M) to victims of attacks in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, Jos South and Bassa local governments of Plateau state.
The first lady said the donation which is born out of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) is a modest step towards helping affected families to recover from their wounds, rebuild their lives and resettle in their communities. She noted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to foster lasting peace and security for every community in Nigeria.
The governor of Plateau state, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Mutfwang while delivering a goodwill message noted that he was fortunate enough to be the first Nigerian governor to hold a meeting with the wife of the president, during which he was able to share with her, the concerns of Plateau state. It is against the backdrop of these concerns that she decided to visit the state to identify with affected victims of attacks and help relieve them of their ordeals.
“We are quite fortunate on the Plateau; that the wife of the president chose to visit Plateau state, a state governed by a party in opposition to the ruling party at the national level tells the story that after politics, comes the business of governance”, the governor said. The governor noted that as a result of the meeting he had with the first lady, she had directed that the affected victims should be shortlisted, and the state government was able to come up with the list from the six local governments of Mangu, Bokkos, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South and Bassa. “Fortunately, the money is going into bank accounts directly. Ours is to supervise and monitor to ensure that the money gets to those it was meant for. We will give a report of how the money is put into use”, the governor added.
A symbolic presentation was done by the first lady to the governor who in turn presents to the beneficiaries, each going home with the sum of one million naira (N1m).
A vote of thanks was then given by the Gbong gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba. The paramount ruler on behalf of the government of the state, the traditional council and the entire citizens of Plateau state thanked the first lady for the visit, and also for the wonderful love extended to the state. “We cannot thank you enough. God in his infinite mercy will bless you and strengthen you to continue to reach out to people in need always. We wish you a safe journey back and we look forward to having you spend a weekend in Plateau state subsequently”, the traditional ruler noted.
In the first lady’s entourage were the wife of the executive governor of Imo state and secretary Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Her Excellency, Barr. Chioma Hope Uzodimma, wife of the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress and secretary/Director Education Renewed Hope Initiative, Prof. Hafsat Ganduje and other distinguished personalities.
On hand to receive her excellency, the distinguished guest to Plateau state were the executive governor of Plateau state, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, the wife of the governor, her excellency Barrister Helen Mutfwang, the Gbong gwom Jos, HRH, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, CFR, former deputy governor Prof. Sonny Gwanle Tyoden, Plateau state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chris Hassan, Plateau state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Rufus Bature, Senator Diket Plang, Senator Nora Daduut, Amb Bagudu Hirse, Sarah Reng Ochekpe, Rear admiral S B Atukum, commissioners and members of the Plateau state house of assembly.
