The Federal High Court in Jos has sentenced a widower to 18 months in prison for having carnal knowledge of and by extension harbouring the minor, aged 13.
Mohammed Kabiru Usman, 35, was arraigned on Wednesday, by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), after the agency received a tip off that he took his victim, a girl, to his residence in Angwan Ankwai in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The presiding judge, Justice Dorcas Agishi ruled that the widower harboured his victim (names withheld) for sexual exploitation, thereby committing an offence contrary to section 13 (2) (b) of the trafficking in persons (prohibition) enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
The widower pleaded guilty to the offence when the one-count charge brought by counsel to NAPTIP, C. Y. Dabiet, was read to him and was asked too pay a fine of N200,000.
