The presidential visitation panel set by the Visitor to the University of Jos President and commander in chief of the Arm Forces, President Mohammadu Buhari today held a town hall meeting with stakeholders, former Vice-Chancellors, unions (ASUU, SANUU, NAAT, NASU and SUG) host communities Anaguta Community and neighbouring communities of Angwan Rogo, Zinaria, Azurfa and Angwa Remi. including the university management team led by prof. S.S Maimako the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos.
The Vice-chancellor, Professor S. S Maimako welcomes the august visitors to the University of Jos and informed the town hall that the panel will be in the University for some time on the national assignment on behalf of the president to address issues of administration and general academic quality assurance…
Addressing the town hall, the leader of the team, Prof. Olu Obafemi says the committee is not here for witch-hunting but rather as partners in the education project. Prof. Obafemi explained that their assignment is tight to a term of reference that will include: 1. level of implementation of the last Visitation report (10 years ago) 2. look into the leadership quality of the university, 3. examine financial management of the university from 2016-2021, 4. investigate the application for funds and relevance for funding, 5 examine the adequacy of staffing, 6 scrutinize the law establishing the university among other references
Prof. Obafemi also added that the committee has about two weeks to receive written and oral presentations from the general public. Among the communities present, the Anaguta people and the donors of the land appreciated the Visitor and promise to cooperate with the panel to achieve its set goal.
ASUU Unijos Branch through the Vice-chairman, Assoc. Prof. Yilqwan Chris welcome the Olu Obafemi Led panel while appreciating the president for implementing the call of ASUU on the visitation to universities plead that oral presentation is allowed and that ASUU will certainly submit a comprehensive memo to the committee.
