Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Monday assured the citizens of the State that his administration is committed to implementing the white paper from the Berom and Fulani Peace Committee.
Lalong said despite activities of enemies of peace who were bent on dragging the state to the gory past, his administration will remain focused in the enthronement of peace and unity in the state.
The Governor stated this while declaring open a three-day Peace and Security Conference, Organised by Plateau Peace Building Agency, titled: “The resurgence of Violence in Plateau state: Towards a Multi Stakeholder Partnership for Peace and Security” held in Jos, the State Capital.
He said two separate committees have been constituted recently constituted to work on the safe return and resettlement of all IDPs to their homes and provide humanitarian needs of the victims.
“I am saddened by the fact that some of the modest successes we have recorded in our collective efforts to build peace within the last three years, have been undermined by agents of destabilization and enemies of peace.
“We shall not however despair and neither shall we relent in our commitment to tackle the challenges of peace and security regardless of the evil machinations of those who have sworn to take us back to our gory past.
“Our administration is committed to implementing the white paper from the Berom and Fulani Peace Committee. We believe this is also a panacea for building inclusive peace, based on the recommendations of the conflict parties.
“I recently constituted and inaugurated two separate committees to work on the safe return and resettlement of all IDPs to their homes in the one hand, and in the other, provide for the immediate humanitarian needs of the victims of he crisis with a view to saving lives and maintaining the dignity of human persons.

Meanwhile, the Charge de Affaires of US Embassy, Abuja, Mr. David Young, urged Nigerian Government to arrest and charge to court evil men behind the killings of innocent persons in the Middle Belt region of the country.
He said prosecuting those who have been arrested in connection to the killings in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, Taraba and other parts of Nigeria would be a step towards ending the circle of violent.
“The US Government condemned in the strongest term the violence that claimed innocent lives here in Plateau state, across the Middle Belt and across Nigeria. The killing of innocent persons is not acceptable, whether in Plateau, Zamfara, Benue, Borno, Delta, Taraba states and any other parts of the country,” he said.
The Director General of Plateau Peace Building Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang, said the peace, which the State government and the agency had worked for in the last three years was truncated by enemies of peace during the recent attacks in the state.
Lengmang stressed that the Peace Agency will continue to work and create mutual understanding with various ethnic nationalities in the state for absolute and sustainable peace.
